KADAPA: CPI functionaries, Dalits and poor persons occupied nearly 100 acres of Government banjar land by hoisting flags in Savisettipalle, Padigalapalle and J. Kottala villages in Kasinayana mandal in Badvel constituency on Saturday. Eleven hundred acres of banjar land was available on the outskirts of these villages, but some landlords of other areas encroached upon the land, CPI district secretary G. Obulesu alleged. Officials were indifferent to the encroachment by monied landlords and were showing only 300 acres of assigned lands in the area, he alleged. Recalling the party’s agitations, he said Rajampet RDO Y. Ramachandra Reddy had promised allotment of land to eligible poor in February 2006. CPI forwarded a list of 92 eligible poor in July last year seeking land allotment, but the RDO initiated no action so far. Hence CPI spearheaded the land occupation movement and occupied the land, he asserted. When officials assured distribution of land on August 15, he termed it a bid to mislead the agitators. Verbal duel ensued between the CPI functionaries and police, who tried to prevent their attempts. A.P. Agricultural Labourers Union district general secretary P. Krishnamurthy, former State vice-president Abdul Khader, CPI area secretary Venkatasubbaiah and leader Tirupati Reddy participated.
