Yediyurappa inspects medical college building

SHIMOGA: Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa visited the new building of government medical college coming up on the premises of Mcgann General Hospital here on Saturday.

He saw the progress of construction of the first floor of the three-storey building which comprises classrooms, administrative office, central library and staff room.

The first phase of the construction being taken up at a cost of Rs. 20 crore is almost over and the classes of first year MBBS course can be started from the current academic year.

The work on the second phase of the building, involving a cost of Rs. 20 crore, will commence soon.

The construction of separate boys’ and girls’ hostel having 40 rooms each is under progress and they will be ready to accommodate students admitted this year.

Mr. Yediyurappa, who is also the district in-charge Minister, expressed his satisfaction over the progress achieved in the construction of the first floor of the building. He asked the officials concerned to see that there were no problems for commencement of classes once the admissions were made.

Those who accompanied him include former Shimoga MP Ayanur Manjunath, members of the governing council of the college Lakshminarayan Kashi and Jyothi Prakash, president of the district unit of BJP Girish Patel and chairman of the Malnad Area Development Authority Padmanabh Bhat.

Principal of the college H.T. Chidanand and the district surgeon Nanda Shinghe outlined the progress of the college building and the arrangements made for commencement of classes from this year.
