Multi-Organ Harvesting Aid Network (MOHAN) plays key role
HYDERABAD: Doctors at the Global Hospitals here transplanted heart and kidney simultaneously on a 57-year old recipient on Friday night. The organs were retrieved from a brain dead victim of a road accident two days ago. His liver was also transplanted on another patient and eyes donated to a city hospital, Global Hospitals Managing Director, K. Ravindranath, told a news conference on Saturday. He refused to disclose the names of either the donor or the recipients as it was forbidden under the Organ Transplant Act. Recipients doing well
Dr. Ravindranath said both the recipients were doing well. The recipient of the organs, an official of National Mineral Development Corporation, had come to the hospital with kidney disorder but it was found that his heart was also not functioning properly owing to which. doctors felt the need for combined transplant. The NGO Multi-Organ Harvesting Aid Network (MOHAN), played a key role in identifying the donor who received severe head injuries in an accident while riding pillion on a two-wheeler. He was a 30-year old businessman of Nellore who had settled in Shadnagar. The twin procedures were conducted by twenty specialists of the hospital over ten hours.
