PERAMBALUR: Service organisations, normally, take up and launch a social project that lasts for a few months, tallying with the tenure of its office-bearers for a particular year.

A change in the team of office bearers during successive years means a change in the service projects.

But the Lions Family of Jayamkondam in Perambalur district has been implementing a single project for the past couple of years and has ensured its sustenance for the third consecutive year recently.

The Lions Family of Jayamkondam adopted six students who have been pursuing higher and professional education.

Gomathi is doing her third year in medicine in Thanjavur Medical College; Vinodh is an undergraduate student in engineering; Ilavarasi is a student of B.Sc (Nursing); three others are students of polytechnics.

As in the past two years, these students got their cheque to pursue their education at a function held at Jayamkondam to mark the installation of office-bearers of the Lions Club of Jayamkondam Chozhan City.

Cash assistance

The District Revenue Officer (Land Acquisition), M. Narayanan, gave away the cash assistance to the students. He gave away cash assistance of Rs. 30,000 each to four persons, including two children, to meet the expenditure towards cardiac surgery. The charter president, M. Rajaram, installed the office-bearers of the Club led by its president N.A.B. Ramesh Kumar.
