Need for rooting out red tape stressed ‘Choose leaders who bring happiness to people’
BANGALORE: The requirement of better governance in a booming economy was the common thread at the 11th convocation of the M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Management held here on Saturday. Both Gurcharan Das, columnist, and Albert Brunner, CEO of BIAL, who spoke at the convocation, stressed the need to improve governance, especially in rooting out red tape. They urged the youth to take part in the election process and choose leaders who could bring contentment to the citizens. Mr. Das said industrialisation had led to the country to grow at a steady rate of about 7 per cent annually. The biggest story of the 21st Century had been the rise in the standard of living in countries such as India and China. He said the country’s growth could not be stopped except for the factors such as poor governance. “The reference here is to actions that hurt poor every day. We are witnessing growth, but the institutions, including courts and police are falling,” he said. Mr. Das said to reform the present system of governance, more number of people from the middle class should come forward to exercise their franchise and “choose a reforming prime minister, who can bring in more happiness to people.” Vice-chairman of Gokula Education Foundation M.R. Seetharam spoke. Mr. Das and Mr. Brunner presented students with certificates for completion of postgraduate diploma in business management course. Seventeen students were given gold and silver medals.
