Decision to set up two joint control rooms, one each on the North and South Campus ‘There will also be a provision of sealed complaint boxes in colleges’
NEW DELHI: Delhi University has asked its colleges to strictly enforce the rules and regulations, especially the provisions of Ordinance XV-B, XV-C and XV-D pertaining to maintenance of discipline, prohibition and punishment for ragging and policy against sexual harassment, respectively. The University has also decided to set up two joint control rooms, one each on the North Campus (27667221) and the South Campus (24119832) to receive complaints pertaining to ragging. A meeting of the Proctorial Board of the University was held this past week to consider measures for smooth induction of students during the opening of the new academic year 2007-2008. Officials of the Delhi Police were also present at the meeting. Apart from the formation of disciplinary squads in colleges, including the evening ones, the authorities have directed the hostels to restrict the entry of outsiders and to prominently display rules regarding prohibition of ragging. “There will also be a provision of sealed complaint boxes in colleges, especially those with the hostels, and responsibility will be fixed for looking into the complaints received and to take immediate action whenever required,” said Registrar A. K. Dubey in an official release. The authorities apparently are determined to tighten the noose on the hostels – which are usually the haven for ragging -- as they have called for regular and unannounced inspections to detect unauthorised entry or stay therein. No guests will be allowed to stay in the hostels during the initial weeks of the opening of the University. “Police pickets will also be placed outside every college with special assistance being provided to women’s colleges. Acts of indiscipline and ragging will be dealt with strictly under the University’s Statutes and Ordinances, which give legal authority to Principals and Wardens to take preventive as well as punitive action, wherever required. Police assistance will be sought whenever the situation warrants direct intervention by them,” said Dr. Dubey. The Delhi police will continue to provide security and regulate traffic at various sensitive locations on the campus and may control entry through gates and barricades wherever necessary. Mobile patrolling has also been introduced from this year to monitor any incidents of ragging, the officials said.
