MOS certification programme launched

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Orient Longman, publishers of educational material, in association with Cyberlearning, a US-based company, has launched Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification examination in India.

The MOS is a Microsoft certified programme that tests and certifies a candidate’s skills in MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, Project and is a globally recognised standard for demonstrating desktop skills, said Joe Tun Sein, consultant, examination division, Orient Longman Pvt. Ltd., here on Friday.

Giving the details about the programme to mediapersons, Mr. Joe said though MS Office was the most widely used in business productivity system, the average user mastered only a portion of the software’s functionality and the training offered was not comprehensive. The certification would ensure that a candidate would have all the skills required in the corporate world and meet the demand for qualified and knowledgeable people in the workplace. A candidate could take the test from any authorised test centre registered with Orient Longman for each of the products of MS Office.

One could also purchase the subscription to an online e-learning MS Office course of Cyberlearning designed to enhance individual skills and proficiency in using the MS Office Suite in real-world scenarios. The online training and certification would also help all those with no knowledge of basic computing to acquire the sought after skills and take advantage of IT boom in the country, he said.

“We propose to set up 10 centres in Hyderabad and two to three centres in other cities and towns in the State,” he said. “We are hopeful that 25,000 people would take the test by September 30 in India, ” he said.

For more details, one may approach the offices of Orient Longman or log on to the website www.orientlongman.com, he said.
