IN PLACE: Two heavy-duty cranes being used to erect the pedestrian walkway across Avanashi Road at the PSG College of Technology in Coimbatore on Sunday.
Coimbatore: Construction of a foot overbridge connecting the two premises of PSG Group of Institutions located on either side of the Avanashi Road was completed on early Sunday. Hitherto, students from one campus had to cross the road to reach the other and this resulted in traffic congestion on the road frequently. Hence, the management came forward to have a foot overbridge there. To enable the construction work, the city police diverted traffic on the Avanashi Road stretch through Vilankurichi Road for the vehicles from Coimbatore city heading towards Peelamedu. Vehicles entering the city were diverted through a temporary route laid near the Sarvajana School and PSG Institute of Management. A Hyderabad-based firm erected the iron structure weighing nearly 300 tonnes over the two beams on the college premises on either side of the road. Six cranes were pressed into service. The work that began on Saturday midnight was completed on Sunday morning. Normal traffic on Avanashi Road is expected to resume by Monday.
