Letters to the Editor
This refers to the report that the All India Democratic Women’s Association has expressed concern over the fatwa issued by the Darul Uloom Deoband against co-education (July 10). The illegal fatwa against something that is valid under the law of the land is unfortunate indeed. Several issues relating to the Muslim community such as triple talaq and the purdah are already being debated and remain unsettled. Co-education is the latest issue to be added to the list. There already exists a shortage of schools and a fatwa against co-education is most untimely. Muslim leaders should ensure that religion does not come in the way of their children pursuing education.
