Staff Reporter

Coimbatore: The Valparai Supervisor, Staff and Plantation Workers Association has appealed to the State Government to fix Rs. 175 as daily wages for the plantation workers in Valparai. A release from the association president, V. Thangavelu, said that The textile workers in the State earned about Rs. 250 a day, the hosiery unit workers in Tirupur got Rs. 220 a day and agriculture workers Rs. 200 a day for eight hours work. Those in the plantations in Valparai worked for even 12 hours and were earning just about Rs. 72 a day.
