PATNA: Predicting the fall of the Nitish Kumar Government in Bihar in less than four months, Railway Minister and RJD chief Lalu Prasad concluded a party workers’ meeting, holding out an olive branch to the upper castes. Exhorting his workers to be prepared for the battle ahead, Mr. Prasad underlined his commitment to carry all sections of society, in his remarks at the workshop in Rajgir in Nalanda district. The important part of his political resolution was the stress on reservations particularly for the economically backward among the upper castes. Mr. Prasad advocated a 10 per cent reservation for the economically disadvantaged among the upper castes, including educational institutions. Mr .Prasad said that his party would not wait for five years for another shot at power in the State. However, he would not act in any way to pull down the NDA Government. The Government would fall on its own. “The NDA camp is on fire set by legislators belonging to both the JD(U) and the BJP. It would stand razed to the ground by October 28 ahead of the party’s first rally in the State capital after losing its 15-year hold on the State.” The RJD chief referred to the combined Legislature party meeting of the NDA and the attack that the JD(U) and the BJP MLAs had launched against Mr. Kumar. He spoke about the humiliation that JD(U) MLA Poornamasi Ram suffered and how 60 legislators stood by him. He said the BJP leader Bhola Prasad Singh was being victimised for speaking out against the Chief Minister and his inability to contain the law and order situation. Hobson’s choice
Referring to the delay in the expansion of the Council of Ministers, Mr. Prasad said that Mr. Kumar was faced with a Hobson’s choice. “Mr. Kumar has been stalling the exercise as it would lead to a backlash both in the JD(U) and the BJP.”
