Elephant tramples man to death

BANGALORE: A farmer was trampled to death by an elephant near Sathnur in Kanakapura taluk of Bangalore Rural district in the early hours of Monday.

The police said that around 6.30 a.m. Range Gowda, 50, was working on his farm at M.T. Doddi, 5 km from Sathnur. An elephant strayed into the farm and trampled him, killing him on the spot, the police said.

Later, the elephant destroyed crops in adjoining fields. People from the village burst firecrackers and beat drums and chased the elephant into the adjoining forest, the police said.
