KANCHEEPURAM: The Tamil Nadu Housing Board has initiated the process of evicting “illegal occupants” of the land acquired by it in Kancheepuram town in 1996.
Officials claimed that nearly 14 out of 74 owners, from whom the lands were acquired, have accepted the compensation offered to them in 1996. The Board had agreed to pay a total sum of Rs.95.94 lakh to the 74 owners.
The amount, which had not been collected by remaining persons, was deposited in the court, he added.
However, the “occupants” resisted the move stating that due notice for eviction had not been issued to them. Later in the afternoon, the Board agreed to take control of the 18.33 acres by conducting the eviction process in a phased manner.
