Fight for your rights: Buta Singh

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The National Commission for Scheduled Castes is not asking for more powers. It only wants the Government to ensure the implementation of whatever had been enshrined in the Constitution for them, its Chairman, Buta Singh, said on Monday.

Speaking at a meeting organised by the People’s Educational Trust here, Mr. Singh pointed out that the Constitution was supreme.

There were several Articles in the Constitution which spoke about the rights of the Scheduled Castes.

The Article 338 (National Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) was exclusively for the people of the community. The Commission would take all possible steps for the implementation of the assurances, he said amid applause.

Mr. Singh appealed to the people of the community to fight for their rights and come up in life.
