BIJAPUR: The former editor of Navanadu Shivanand Joshi has said journalists cannot do justice to their job if they are close to those in power. Delivering a guest lecture organised by the district unit of the Karnataka Union of Working Journalists here on Monday, he said journalists should maintain good contacts with officials and politicians but not good ‘relations’. Superintendent of Police, S. Murugan said the Fourth Estate was the guardian of democracy, and objectivity should be its hallmark. Senior journalist Gopal Nayak presided over the function.
