TIRUPUR: A flood alert has been sounded along the low-lying areas along the course of Amaravathi river in Coimbatore, Erode and Karur districts as the Amaravathi reservoir started surplussing.
As the water level reached to 88.69 feet on Tuesday against the total reservoir level of 90 feet, the authorities released 3,859 cusecs around noon.
With torrential rain lashing the catchment areas in the Tamil Nadu and Kerala forests, the reservoir received an inflow of 7,000 cusecs on Tuesday morning. It was reduced to 3,850 cusecs in the noon.
