Game of protest
The Opposition seemed to lack ideas when it called for a hartal, to protest against ‘Government failure’ to combat fever cases. The postponing of the hartal is perhaps a way to wriggle out of the misplaced call. A hartal manages to disrupt many activities on a working day. The Opposition, perhaps does not realise that this would also prevent fever-affected people from reaching hospitals on time. Hospital staff will also struggle to reach their work place.
The image of the politicians, both on the ruling and the Opposition side would certainly get a boost if they join hands in controlling the disease. If councillors take care to keep their wards clean, the plight would not have arisen.
