BERHAMPUR: Members of the Youth Walkers’ Club of the city celebrated the birthday of one of their members in a special way among a group of blind children on Tuesday. It was the birthday of one of their members, Srinivas Senapati. And the club members decided to celebrate it at the residential girls’ school for blind at Gosaninuagaon area of the city. They had not informed the school authorities about their plans to make it a sweet surprise for the inmates, said club president E. Srinivas Rao. The group of youth reached the school along with chappals for the children and material for their use like soaps, rice, dal and vegetables. As it was a birthday celebration they also had the birthday cake with items to decorate the school premises. Taking permission from the head of the school, Bhavani Shankar Padhi, within no time they decorated the area and all students of the school were called up to celebrate the birthday. The children had a few hours of entertainment with the youths as they got engaged in songs and dances. Mr. Padhi described the event as a sweet surprise for him as well as the students of his school. “At least through such efforts the visually-challenged children get their confidence that they are also part of the joy that people around them celebrate,” he said.
