VIRUDHUNAGAR: The Minister for School Education, Thangam Thennarsu, gave away free colour television sets to 355 families of the Kottakatchiyendal panchayat in the district on Tuesday.
Mr. Thennarasu said that the reserved panchayat, comprising Kottkatchiyendal, Poovakani and Kadaiyammarithan, had received special attention for development from the Government.
Apart from the Rs. 20 lakh under the Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam under which basic amenities such as cement roads, streetlights and improvement of cremation yard, playground and deepening of ‘ooranis’ were provided, it had got new school buildings under the Sarva Siksha Abiyan.
The Minister said that he himself had allotted Rs.5 lakh from the MLA Constituency Development Fund for renovation and desilting of tanks. Besides, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam had given Rs. 5 lakh for desilting of tanks.
The Minister also instructed the revenue officials to initiate action to prevent people from northern States taking over land at Kariyapatti by fraudulent means.
He called for stringent action against those who had used fake documents for transfer of names.
The Aruppukottai Divisional Revenue Officer, R. Sivasubramanian, and the Tiruchuzhi Tahsildar, Sethuraja, were present.
