PUDUKOTTAI: The Chief Judicial Magistrate, P. Rajamanickam, on Monday, ordered the attachment of a bus owned by the Pudukottai branch of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, for non-payment of compensation ordered by the court, to the bereaved family members of a boy killed in a road accident.
The petitioners, Raja Mohamed, and his wife, Syed Ali Fathima of Manamelkudi, in their executive petition, said that their son, Mohamed Arif, was killed in a road accident involving a bus owned by the Pudukottai branch of the Corporation, in October 2003.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate Court had, in November 2005, ordered payment of Rs.2,40,242 towards compensation. However, the Pudukottai branch of the Corporation was yet to effect the payment, the petitioners said.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate ordered attachment of ‘a bus’ and the court staff attached a town bus plying between Pudukottai and Kuzhipirai.
Following an undertaking submitted on behalf of the Corporation that the payment would be made within a month’s time, the bus was released.
