‘Beating heart surgery’ performed at the hospital

Modern lifestyle blamed for heart problems


Kakinada: The Apollo Hospital here is now fully equipped, including the expert nephrologists, vital machinery and the infrastructure to undertake kidney transplantation, according to its medical director Suryaprakasa Rao.

At a press conference here on Tuesday, he said the required permission for renal transplantation was yet to receive from the Government.

A high-powered committee headed by the DME, he said, would visit the hospital at any time during this month.

Another facility that will be operational within a month at the hospital, he said, was the treatment and control of obesity by laparoscopic procedures.

He said that cardio-thoracic surgeon Koduri Venkata Ramana a couple of days back performed the ‘beating heart surgery’ avoiding the heart lung machine.

The new surgical procedure, he said, was advantageous as there was a little blood loss and fewer complications. Garikipati Mahesh, consultant interventional cardiologist, said the hospital was providing quality medical care extending concessions to poorer sections.

He advised the people to go for medical insurance facility enabling them to avail better medicare for improving the quality of life.

The newly-joined consultants team, orthopaedic surgeon and trauma care specialist Partha Pratim Chatterjee, medical specialist Mummidi Manohara Prasad, besides the existing team,nephrologists Somayajulu, neurosurgeon Kiran Kumar, specialist in imaging sciences Sarat Kumar, cardiologist Hemant while interacting with newsmen on the multi-disciplinary approach to various diseases, said modern life style was leading to incidence of many diseases, especially the heart problems.
