BELLARY: Minister for Tourism B. Sriramulu said that the coalition government had been announcing several welfare programmes for the poor and needy, including women, and wanted the people to make use of them. He said that under National Social Security Scheme, Rs. 40 lakh had been sanctioned to Bellary taluk of which Rs. 20 lakh had been released. He distributed cheques for Rs. 10,000 each to around 211 beneficiaries and said the balance amount would be released soon when all pending claims since 2001 would be cleared. He exhorted the poor, including women, to get benefited by the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, which had been extended to the district this year. Kashinath Pawar, Assistant Commissioner Bellary, and tahsildar Bheema Nayak spoke. Veerbhadrappa, Executive Officer, Bellary Taluk Panchayat, welcomed the gathering.
