We are morally bound to support Khanduri: UKD

Staff Correspondent

DEHRA DUN: Coalition partner Uttarakhand Kranti Dal has decided to support the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate and Chief Minister, Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri, in the upcoming Dhumakot by-election to the State Assembly.

“We are morally bound to support the Chief Minister as we are part of his Government and do hope to unitedly usher in real-time development over the next five years,” said senior UKD leader Kashi Singh Airi here on Tuesday.

Gen. Khanduri has to fulfil the Constitutional requirement of getting elected to the Vidhan Sabha within six months of assuming office. The deadline is September 8. He along with former Congress strongman T. P. S. Rawat, who vacated the seat and crossed over to the saffron fold, has been touring the constituency trying to garner support by solving local problems over the past several weeks despite widespread rain in this highly backward region of Pauri Garhwal district.

A large number of BJP volunteers can be seen promising rapid all-round development if a vote is cast in favour of the Chief Minister.

The Congress, which suffers from the setback of Gen. Rawat deserting it, is finding it difficult to field a stalwart against the Chief Minister. “We are working on the issue and a winning candidate will be announced soon,” said the party’s chief spokesperson, Surendra Kumar.
