DUBAI: The Dubai-based Smart City, which has signed an agreement with the State for developing an Information Technology (IT) cluster in Kochi, has decided to go “green.” The company – a joint venture of Tecom and Sama, announced on Monday that the design, construction and operations of its buildings would comply with the highest environmental standards. The company would follow the guidelines on environmental standards set by the ‘Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design’ – the world’s premier certification programme for sustainable buildings. “As we embark on creating knowledge-based industry clusters in various parts of the world, sustainable development is an important focus for us,” said Fareed Abdulrahman, Executive Director of Smart City. “‘Going green’ also makes sound economic sense and enhances the long-term profitability and productivity of a Smart City project. ” According a statement, the company’s ‘green buildings’ would be highly energy and resource efficient, non-wasteful and non-polluting.
