BANGALORE: A group of people, said to be Akhila Bharatha Veerashaiva Mahasabha activists, barged into the Kannada Bhavan on J.C. Road here on Tuesday and smashed the glass panes to vent their ire against the controversial book, “Aanudeva Horaganuvanu”, by Banjagere Jayaprakash. The police said the incident took place around 11.30 a.m. when a committee appointed by the State Government to look into the contents of the book was holding its meeting at the Kannada Bhavan, next to the Ravindra Kalakshetra. People, who were demonstrating near Sir Puttanna Chetty Town Hall seeking a ban on the book, barged into the Kannada Bhavan soon after Kannada Sahitya Parsihat president and writer Chandrashekar Patil arrived there. They raised slogans and tried to prevent Dr. Patil, who is a member of the committee, from attending the meeting. After the police dispersed the unruly crowd, the committee continued its meeting, the police said. Members of the mahasabha have been demonstrating near the Town Hall for the past few days. On Tuesday, the members burnt an effigy of Mr. Jayaparakash. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) B.N.S. Reddy, one of the members carrying a helmet, accidentally hit a glass door at the Kannada Bhavan. The activists did not ransack the building. The police did not register a case as nobody filed a complaint, he said.
