Indian Institute of Logistics

Booming international trade has led to the foray of a new field that has gained a status of its own as a specialized subject of study – logistics. Putting it simply, logistics deals with all the steps involved in the movement of cargo from one place to another. Captain V.J.Pushpa Kumar, Chief Learning Officer, Indian Institute of Logistics, Chennai, enumerates the concept.

International trade happens through multi-modal transport. Surface transport comprises of rail, road and ocean. Liquid cargo is transported through pipeline. Airways are another means of transport for cargo. Surface transport being the most widely used multi-modal transport; jobs generated in this area are aplenty. Logisticians ensure trouble free movement of cargo from the place of loading to its destination.

Indian Institute of Logistics is a centre of excellence in logistics and offers academic programmes in that sphere with the objective of enhancing the competitiveness of the Indian industry globally through integrated initiatives in the domain of multi-modal transport and logistics. To cater to the students more efficiently Indian Institute of Logistics has opened an admission office at Ernakulam.
