Coimbatore: Officers led by the Deputy Commandant from the Small Arms-Regimental Centre of the Tamil Nadu Police, Avadi, on Tuesday commenced the inspection on the upkeep and maintenance of firearms at the city police armoury. This was an annual exercise and all the arms at the disposal of the police would be inspected for checking their periodical maintenance and carrying out repairs, if any, in batches, City Police Commissioner, C.K. Gandhirajan, said. The police as on date had 1,400 weapons including .303 Self Loading Rifles, 410 Musket, gas guns, tear gas guns, tear gas grenade launchers, AK 47, Thomsons guns, Light Machine Gun and carbine. To facilitate the inspection, the city police had sourced the weapons from the police stations in various batches. The inspection would continue for another day or two, he said.
