Chelsea in ‘no great rush’

LONDON: Chelsea is in “no great rush” to tie influential pair John Terry and Frank Lampard to new, long-term contracts, according to club chairman Bruce Buck.

Both Chelsea captain Terry and vice-captain Lampard have two years remaining on their present deals and Lampard, in particular, has been the subject of speculation over a move abroad.

Dutch winger Arjen Robben is in an identical position, and is reported to be attracting interest from Spanish champion Real Madrid.

But Buck, on Chelsea’s tour in the United States, said the club was not in too much of a hurry.

‘Hopeful’

“I’m hopeful we will be able to sort out all these out. It’s not something where there are negotiations every day,” he told Britain’s Guardian newspaper.

“Things happen periodically but we are not in a super great rush. Sure we would like to get it done but there’s no deadline and there doesn’t need to be.

“All three have two years left so I don’t see there’s a great rush but I do think they should be done properly.” — Reuters
