Villupuram in last eight

Dindigul: Villupuram qualified for the quarterfinals by virtue of its first innings lead over Dindigul in the TNCA inter-district under-19 cricket tournament here on Tuesday.

Resuming at score of 52 for two, Dindigul could make only 231 in 98 overs as against Villupuram’s score of 247, falling short by 16 runs. M. Mohamed scored 91 runs to boost Dindigul’s total and at one stage Dindigul was 170 for four and looked like taking a first innings lead. But Sameerkhan’s five for 59 for Villupuram changed the complexion of the match.

At Dindigul: Villupuram 247 in 72.4 overs drew with Dindigul 231 in 98 overs (M. Mohamed 91, R. Muhil Alagan 30, R. Krishna Mohan 27, A. Sameerkhan five for 59).

At Theni: Theni 64 and 120 in 42 overs (Sudeesh 45, E.J. Karthik eight for 36) lost to Kanchipuram 297 in 65 overs (R. Vijay 34, Pradeepan 75, Aashiskumar 46, R. Karthik 48 not out, Sudeesh five for 78).
Customs scrapes through

Customs and Central Excise beat Majestic CC by one run in an exciting finish in the Madurai DCA first division ‘A’ zone cricket league at Madurai.

The scores:

First division ‘A’ zone: Customs and Central Excise 274 for seven in 46 overs (Selvakumar 42, Jaisingh 57, Venkatesh 40) bt Majestic 273 in 46 overs (Sarvana Sundaresan 95, Ananda Kannan 57).

Third division: Modern Golden Star 130 in 24.3 overs (N. Ravi 41) bt King’s 70 in 20.1 overs.
Semifinalists spotted

Khajamian Higher Secondary School (Tiruchi), GHSS (Perundurai), PKD HSS (Pollachi) and Swamy Sivanand Vidyalaya qualified from their respective pools for the semifinal round-robin league of the sixth annual T.V. Sundaram Iyengar memorial trophy State-level inter-school volleyball tournament at Madurai.
