Guruprasad shocks Amar

BANGALORE: Qualifier D. Guruprasad stunned the top seed V. Amar 21-14, 18-21, 21-17 and entered the men’s singles final of the Narsamma memorial State-ranking badminton championship, conducted by the Malleswaram Association, here.

Guruprasad takes on the third seed Mohit Kamath, who beat the defending champion and the second seed, M.D. Anup Kiran 21-13, 21-15 in the other semifinal.

For the second successive week, after their title clash at the Canara Union tournament, Anup Kiran and Prateek Khurana set up a summit clash in the boys’ under-19 event. Anup beat Dhruv Shanbag 21-11, 21-14 and Prateek scored a hard-fought 22-20, 23-21 victory over Prakash Jolly in the semifinals.

Ankita in final

The former National under-13 singles No. 2, Ankita Ashok, entered the girls’ under-19 singles final with a 21-7, 21-12 win over the second-seeded Sayali Malgave. She will meet Jacqueline Kunnath, who shocked the top seed Monisha Vinayaak 12-21, 21-6, 21-18.

Men: D. Guruprasad bt V. Amar 21-14, 18-21, 21-17; Mohit Kamath bt M.D. Anup Kiran 21-13, 21-15.

Boys under-19: M.D. Anup Kiran bt Dhruv Shanbag 21-11, 21-14; Prateek Khurana bt Prakash Jolly 22-20, 23-21.

Under-13 singles: S. Siddarth bt K.V. Rakshith 21-9, 21-12; Shiv Nayak bt B. Vishwanath Kiran 21-9, 21-16.

Girls under-19: Jacqueline Kunnath bt Monisha Vinayak 12-21, 21-6, 21-18; Ankita Ashok bt Sayali Malgavi 21-7, 21-12.
