Man throws acid at ex-wife

Staff Reporter

NALGONDA: A young man allegedly threw acid at his estranged wife in broad daylight in Suryapet town on Tuesday. As a result the woman sustained injuries on her back.

The Suryapet Inspector M.Tirupatanna said that Gaddam Rajender Reddy (32) of Anireddygudem of Penpahad mandal accosted his former wife Vijaya (26) while she was taking lunch to their daughter at a private school.

Vijaya has been living in the town with her daughter for the last two years after the divorce settlement. “He came close to her and threw a bottle of acid on her. He tried to fling the liquid on her face but luckily she ran forward to escape from the attack,” the Inspector said adding that she sustained burns on her back.

She was immediately rushed to the Government hospital, where her condition is said to be out of danger. Mr.Tirupatanna said that Rajender Reddy was “a dangerous lunatic”. Police launched a manhunt for Rajender Reddy.
