VISAKHAPATNAM: Several roads in the city, particularly the by-lanes, are in a bad shape after the monsoon rain battered them. Roads that appeared to be good suddenly sprang up potholes and, at some places, they are quite dangerous. For instance, on the road from Asilmetta to Rama Talkies, a pothole’s impact is sought to be softened by putting a brick in it! Whether that reduces the impact or throws the rider off the balance is a guess rather not ventured. A road that seems to have been getting a raw deal is the Sitampeta road that leads from Gurudwara Junction to RTC Complex. The arterial road makes driving extremely difficult and is a riders’ nightmare. According to contractors, the road is laid with hot metal and stagnation of water on such roads leads to easy formation of craters. It’s for the municipal corporation to see to it that water does not stagnate there. Though some vents have been provided through the footpath, they seem to be ineffective, may be due to blockage, defeating the purpose. Unless some thought is given to restoring the road to a good shape, what with the better of part of the monsoon still ahead, road-users’ hardships will multiply.
