ON DIFFERENT JOB: Jagannath Rath Yatra chariot being pulled by policemen in Puri on Tuesday.
BHUBANESWAR: Nandighosha, chariot of Lord Jagannath, was pulled to Gundicha temple by devotees including a large number of policemen, at Puri, 60 kilometres from here on Tuesday. While chariots of Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra reached aunt’s temple on Monday evening, Lord Jagannath’s chariot could not be pulled to its destination due to the delay. As per the temple rituals, the chariots are not pulled after sunset. The halting of Nandighosh offered opportunities to thousands of devotees to have darshan on Monday evening. The three deities are scheduled to return to their main temple on July 24. Meanwhile, reports from various parts of the State said at least three people were killed and one injured as wheels of chariots rolled over them. However, famous car festival at Puri passed off peacefully. The three casualties were reported from Bhubaneswar, Bolangir and Malda village in Sundargarh district. A 15-year-old boy was run over by a chariot near KIIT University at Patia. The victim was identified as Samir Swain of Prasanthi Vihar of the city. On Tuesday Local people blocked the road in front of KIIT University and demanded compensation for the death.
