Naidu rules out change in stand
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday ruled out the possibility of United National Progressive Alliance changing its stand on abstaining from Presidential elections on July 19.
Addressing a press conference, Mr. Naidu said the Congress and the BJP had no moral right to question the UNPA’s decision. “Candidates fielded by the fronts led by them are controversial and we do not want to support either of them. That is why we wanted all parties to support the President, A. P. J. Abdul Kalam for a second term”.
Replying to questions, he said the Election Commission had clarified that there was nothing wrong if a political party decided to abstain from the elections. “This being the case, it is strange that Congress and BJP leaders both from New Delhi and here are finding fault with the UNPA and misleading people”.
On the UNPA’s candidate for Vice President’s elections, Rasheed Masood’s choice, Mr. Naidu said he had vast experience and was a legislator for six terms.
