India conveys concern
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: Australia’s High Commissioner to India, John McCarthy, was summoned by the External Affairs Ministry on Tuesday and told that India was concerned over the circumstances in which Mohammed Haneef was being detained.
The High Commissioner was also told India desired that a fair treatment be given to the detained doctor. On Monday, the same message was conveyed to the High Commission.
Mr. McCarthy was summoned a day after Australia cancelled Dr. Haneef’s visa and detained him under immigration laws.
The visa was cancelled, after he was granted bail by a magistrate. He has been charged with “recklessly” aiding a terrorist group.
