Currency seized

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Two men have been arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi police on charges of circulating counterfeit currency notes in the Capital. The police claim to have seized from them Rs.19.5 lakh in fake notes that were smuggled from Pakistan and pushed into the country through the Nepal border.

The Special Cell recently received information that Hindu Singh, a resident of M.P. who operated from Nepal, had been circulating fake currency notes smuggled in through the Indo-Nepal border. Acting on a tip-off that he along with his accomplice Neeraj would deliver a consignment to one of their clients at Lajpat Nagar here on Monday, a team led by Inspector Lalit Mohan Negi and Inspector Hriday Bhushan laid a trap and arrested them.

The police said that Rs. 10 lakh in fake notes was found hidden in a waist belt allegedly worn by Hindu Singh. At his instance, the police raided his Vinobapuri hideout and seized the rest of the notes of 1,000-rupee denominations.
