Dalit Sena picks holes in ‘Indiramma’

VIJAYAWADA: Members of the Andhra Pradesh Rashtra Dalit Sena on Tuesday alleged that the ‘Indiramma’ housing programme taken up by the State Government to construct houses for the poor and the needy was deviating from its stated purpose.

In a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister and submitted to the Sub-Collector after staging a dharna, organisation’s urban president D. Raja and State general secretary D. Prem Kumar hailed the Government’s decision to extend housing facility to the families who could not afford it. But, they said, there were gaping holes in the implementation pattern that left ample scope for ‘unscrupulous elements’ to have the houses registered in their names, leaving the genuine beneficiaries high and dry.

They also drew the Government’s attention to the fact that the amount sanctioned for the purpose was far from adequate. Pointing out that the beneficiaries in the upland areas were sanctioned Rs. 25,000, as against Rs. 30,000 given to their counterparts in the low-lying areas, they said that the sum released for the purpose should be enhanced to Rs. 45,000 and Rs. 53,000, respectively. The Sena leaders came up with various suggestions.
