ADILABAD: An anti retro-viral therapy centre (ARTC) for the benefit of full blown AIDS patients will be commissioned at Adilabad district head quarters hospital in mid August. The Adilabad facility will be one of the seven such centres being established jointly by the AP State AIDS Control Society (APASC) and the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) in the State. Adilabad Health Education Officer (HEO) C. Chenna Mallaiah said persons who are full blown cases of AIDS patients would be administered drugs at the ARTC which would keep the HIV virus inactive for certain period. "This will help in expansion of the life of an AIDS patient", he observed. Staff recruitment
The ARTC will work under the supervision of hospital superintendent. The centre will have staff working exclusively for it. The staff to be recruited at State-level would include a senior medical officer, medical officer, counsellor, lab technician, nurse and a computer data operator. The staff would be housed in a building spread in an area of about 900 square foot. Talking about the functioning of the Centre, Mr. Chenna Mallaiah said a cluster differentiate cells count (CD4) machine would perform tests on known HIV patients.
