Velammal MHSS bagged the honours in the Hercules Turbo Drive and Kamalam John Samuvel Rolling Trophy chess tournament for the fifth time in succession for its overall supremacy in the various age group competition. The tournament was organised by the Thiruvallur District Chess Association and Sethu Bhaskara MHSS. The chief guest, J.C.D. Prabhakar, Ex-MLA, and the guest of honour, K.N. Ninety-nine, out of the 125 students, were awarded the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu scholarships at a function at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, on Tuesday. All the awardees were medal winners in National championships. Twenty-seven disciplines were considered for the scholarship scheme, with performances between July 1, 2005 and June 30, 2006 considered for selection. High school and Higher Secondary School students were given Rs. 5,000 per annum, while college and university students were given Rs. 6,500 per annum. The remaining students will receive their scholarships at Tirunelveli. The Minister for Environment and Sports, T.P.M. Mohideen Khan, distributed the scholarship amounts. Khanderia posts win
