Chennai: SBI beat Nilgiris DFA 5-1 in the pre-quarterfinals of the 23rd Vittal Trophy football tournament at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Tuesday.
It was Nilgiris which went ahead first when U. Nandakumar scored in the 16th minute. The equaliser came in the 23rd minute as Parthiban converted a pass from Joseph.
Sathish put SBI ahead in the 27th minute, while C.S. Sabeeth netted a pass from Villy in the 41st.
SBI goalkeeper Sharath showed good reflexes in the second half, making a few acrobatic saves.
After Kavi Bharath made it 4-1 in the 78th minute, Nilgiris goalkeeper A. Umesh failed to stop C. Sudhakar’s shot in the 86th minute to complete a poor day for the visiting side.
