dated July 19, 1957: Afghan King in Moscow

The Soviet Union turned the arrival in Moscow of Mohammed Zahir Shah, King of Afghanistan, into a royal occasion on July 17. The two-engined TU 104 jet plane, which brought him from Tashkent, capital of the Uzbek Republic, was escorted by eight MIG jet fighters. The Soviet President, Marshal Voroshilov, the Communist Party chief, Mr. Nikita Khrushchev, Prime Minister Bulganin and Defence Minister Zhukov, headed the welcoming group. .
