Official defends ANF action

Correspondent

CHIKMAGALUR: Shankar Bidari, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), said here on Tuesday that the Maoists were a banned organisation and having contact with them or speaking in their favour or providing help or shelter to their cadre was a criminal offence.

Mr. Bidari told presspersons that several persons unknowingly provided support to the Maoists.

Reacting to criticism that he was responsible for the encounter in Menasinahadya on July 10, he clarified that the encounter was an action taken by the anti-naxal force and was not at the behest of any official or political party.

Mr. Bidari defended the action of the anti-naxal force (ANF).
