KORAPUT: “The number you are dialling is temporarily out of order” – this response to the frequent calls made by families at Goudoguda village near Koraput town to its kin on Wednesday created a panic. As many as nine persons, including four children, left their homes three weeks ago and this mobile number was the only mode of communication with their children, Hari Goudo, an elderly person from the village said. His son, Damu, had left home along with eight others, including three children, without the knowledge of their family members. However, they heaved a sigh relief after receiving a telephone call from Bangalore saying that one agent had taken them to the city and they were waiting for work. The agent too responded to the calls on this mobile phone number and assured the family members of bringing back the children to home soon . Now, with the mobile phone of the agent going out of order, parents are worried about the safety of their children, Baidei Goudo, an elderly woman of the village said. Lure of higher wages elsewhere has been the prime cause of the migration, she added.
