Passers-by thrash a man fleeing with a bag He has been handed over to the police
DAVANGERE: A gang of persons is operating at the Chigateri General Hospital in the guise of hospital staff. On Wednesday, presspersons, who were at the hospital, saw a group of people beating up a man near the out-patient department of the hospital. Inquiries revealed that he had taken away a bag containing jewellery from an aged woman who had come there for treatment. Those who trashed the fleeing man said that he was Kumaranaika and that he had befriended the woman, Halamma (65) of Chikkamegalageri, saying that he was a friend of her son and also that he was an employee of the hospital. Halamma came to the hospital to get treatment for a dog bite she suffered on Tuesday. They said that Kumaranaika took her to a vacant ward in the first floor and told her that she could remove her earrings and other valuables and keep them in a bag as doctors would demand money from her if they saw her wearing them. Kumaranaiaka then took the bag from Halamma and started fleeing, they said. However, Halamma, who realised the trick immediately, shouted for help and passers-by gave a chase to Kumaranaika and caught him. Recovered
They recovered the bag from him after giving him a good thrashing. Later, he was handed over to the police. Several others also complained of losing their valuables over the past few days.
