Mixed response to bandh

Special Correspondent

SHAHAPUR (GULBARGA DISTRICT): The response to the bandh call given by the Dalit organisations in Shahapur town was mixed with normal life remaining unaffected on Wednesday.

The bandh was opposed by the non-dalit organisations, including the dominant Veerashaiva community.

A majority of business establishments, hotels remained open and bus services, which were withdrawn in the morning, were resumed later.

Members of the Dalit organisations, who took out a procession from the Municipal Office complex to the Tahsildar’s Office, held up traffic by organising a rasta roko at Basaveshwar Circle for about 30 minutes.

The police had made elaborate security arrangements. Senior police officers are camping in the town.
