Complaints over sharing of medical seats

Special Correspondent

Propriety of medical colleges arbitrarily fixing the quota questioned

Puducherry: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam legislator S.P. Sivakumar has said the government is acting in an “unjust manner” and letting down students seeking admission to private medical colleges under government quota.

In a release on Tuesday, Mr. Sivakumar said that there was no firm follow-up action to enforce equal sharing of seats between the Government and private medical colleges for 2007-2008. Students were now in a fix, not knowing whether 50 per cent of the seats would be earmarked for them.

Mr. Sivakumar appealed to the Chief Minister to ensure that equal sharing of seats was implemented.

A. Anbalagan MLA, AIADMK secretary, questioned the propriety of medical colleges arbitrarily fixing the quota for the Puducherry government-sponsored candidates.

Janata Dal (S) leader E. Ganesan, president of the Rashtriya Janata Dal T. Sanjeevi, and Nationalist Congress party leader G. Sundaramoorthy have called for a bandh on July 31 in Puducherry against the failure of the Congress Government in getting 50 per cent of the seats under the Government quota in private medical colleges.
