NEW DELHI: It will be a confluence of people from two countries whose camaraderie has stood the test of time. Russian youth and scholars will be treated to Indian hospitality when they come calling here later this year. An Indo-Russian youth festival and a conference on “Russian Culture and Society” will be organised by the Eurasian Foundation -- a non-profit public research institute -- in October-November. The event will be held to commemorate a campaign launched by Russian President Vladimir Putin who has declared 2007 as the year of Russian language. A large number of artists, representatives from different Russian universities and government officials will attend the function spread over three or four days. While the travelling cost will be borne by the visitors, local hospitality and accommodation will be taken care of by the Foundation. The Foundation seeks to forge close ties among Eurasian countries with India at the centre of interaction. Its focus is on developing policy options for Eurasia, with emphasis on India, Russia, China, Central Asia, Ukraine, Byelorussia and Caucasus. “At the youth festival, Russian troupes will present ballads, while our children will showcase various dance forms. We will involve students studying Russian in the School of Languages and School of International Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University,” said Arun Mohanty, who is director of the Eurasian Foundation and associate professor with the Centre for Russian and Central Asian Studies at JNU.
