Chandigarh: Haryana on Wednesday accused the Delhi Government of supplying polluted drinking water to Faridabad and Mewat. Unfit for consumption
“Out of Haryana’s share of 600 cusecs, Delhi is giving us only 300 to 400 cusecs in Mewat and Faridabad. But it is 100 per cent black sewage water and is unfit for human consumption,” Haryana’s Irrigation Minister Ajay Yadav told reporters here. He said it was causing skin infection, allergies and other diseases to many people in Faridabad and Mewat who had no other option, but to consume the “unfit water”. “We have raised this issue with Central Pollution Control Board. A PIL highlighting this problem has also been filed in the Supreme Court,” he said. Agreement
Mr. Yadav said that Haryana was giving nearly 1 Million Acre Feet (MAF) water to Delhi, which was almost double than what had been agreed, “but still look at the way they are treating us”. “In our agreement with Delhi, we were to give them .20 MAF on completion of SYL canal in Punjab territory, but still we are giving them this water despite our constraints,” he said. In response to a question, Mr. Yadav said: “We will be filing a review petition in the Supreme Court shortly as according to the earlier directions we are required to maintain the level of Sewage Treatment Plants in Delhi”.
