New postal services launched

Staff Reporter

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Postal Division has launched same day delivery of local speed post articles within the city limits.

A release from the Department of Posts said that under this scheme, a local speed post article booked up to 1 p.m. at select post offices and addressed to places within the city would be delivered the same day. The local speed post rate was recently reduced from Rs. 20 to Rs. 12 up to 50 gm. The select post offices were: Coimbatore Head Post Office, R.S. Puram Head Post Office, Tatabad, Ramnagar, Coimbatore Bus Stand, Coimbatore Collectorate, Coimbatore Bazaar and Coimbatore RMS.

Similarly, the web-based instant money transfer service (iMO) was now available at the Coimbatore Head Post Office and R.S. Puram Head Post Office. Under this scheme, money booked through iMO would be disbursed immediately.

A form should be filled up “to remit payment” and money should be handed over at the counter along with the commission charges. A printed receipt with a sealed computer generated confidential 16 digit iMO number would be given to the sender. The number should be conveyed by the sender to the receiver to collect the money at the nearest iMO centre, along with a photo identity proof.

A minimum of Rs. 1,000 and a maximum of Rs. 50,000 could be sent this way, the release added.
