Films on several health topics will be screened Routine blood tests to be done by collecting half the fee
VISAKHAPATNAM: The medical and health exhibition of Andhra Medical College is back after a gap of 10 years. AMC is organising Arogya Utsav from July 20 to 29 as part of its 85th foundation day celebrations, according to its Principal C.S. Rao here on Tuesday. “The idea behind holding the exhibition is to create an awareness among the people to keep good health. Every one should know the constitution of human body and the methods of treatment on which they are spending huge amounts,” he said. The exhibition is also being held in tune with the concept that every medical student must have the experience of participating in a medical and health exhibition during his or her MBBS course. Some of the highlights of the exhibition will be the cancer preventive aspects, awareness about HIV and AIDS, infectious diseases like dengue, malaria and chikun gunya, the life style diseases like diabetes and hypertension. Specimens of organs affected by a disease and healthy organs would be on display. Sophisticated equipment
Models of sophisticated medical equipment would be on display and films on several health topics would be screened. During the exhibition period all the routine blood tests would be done by collecting half the fee charged out side. Cancer-screening test would be held for women. The exhibition would be held in four blocks: Physiology Department (block A), Anatomy Department (block B), Pharmacology and Microbiology Departments (block C) and Pathology (block D). The exhibition would be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day. Entry fee is Rs.30 for adults, Rs.20 for college students and Rs.10 for school children. There is no entry fee for physically challenged persons but they are required to produce a medical certificate. The preparations are on for the last two months and 1,000 students, faculty members and employees would be involved in the conduct of exhibition. Collector Anil Kumar Singhal would inaugurate the exhibition. Head of the department of anatomy K. Deena Usha said exhibits like unique ivory skeleton, dissected bodies, rare foetal specimens, etc, would make the subject more interesting for students. ‘Melting Man’, ‘Talking Skull’ and ‘See Your Skeleton’ would be among the attractions at the exhibition. On July 19, the college administration would honour the former Vice-Chancellors, Directors of Medical Education, Principals and Superintendents of teaching hospitals who have studied in the college. The function would be held at the Panagal buildings, Dr. Rao said.
